There are always new theories about how to maximize a workout, and a recent trend called PreEx training has caught on in the recent months. However, researchers recently examined the perceived benefits of this method and found them to be untrue.
Pre-exhaustive training is when the muscles are worn down with specifically targeted exercises and then worked again with a complex workout. Research published in the journal Applied Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism showed that there were no added benefits to this style of training.
"Our results suggest that exercise order and rest interval make no difference to chronic strength increases following 12 weeks of training, but rather should be chosen based on personal preference," said James Fisher, lead author.
The researchers found that the most important aspect is that an appropriate amount of effort is expended by the repetitions performed.
Proven benefits of omega-3s
